Aleksandr Nevskiy is known for his stand against the Western (German and Swedish) advances on Novgorod and Pskov, but willingly pledged allegiance to the Mongols. Why did he consider a Pagan ruler a better choice than a fellow Christian ruler, even if from another confession?
