Multiple accounts describe Spanish Conquistadors in the 1500's as having numerous facial injuries. Scars, missing teeth, eye patches, etc. Why did the Spanish favor helmets like the Morion which had no face protection instead of other closed helmets that were popular in Europe at the time?
