On modern fishing boats and other seagoing vessels, the term "Pan-Pan, Pan-Pan, Pan-Pan" is used to signal a call for assistance but not as an urgent summons for for emergency. Is there a historical basis for this which goes back to our early days at sea? Or is it a more modern creation?
