Suppose its 1702 and I'm a reasonably wealthy Englishmen and I want to get to ....the Shetland islands (or any of the smaller islands in the British isles) for some reason (maybe I'm a naturalist & I want to study the wildlife there). How do I go about getting a ship to take me there?
