Tony Judt explains in Postwar: "The [Eastern European] Communists' stated objective in 1945 and 1946 was to complete the unfinished bourgeois revolutions of 1848..." How effective was this? Did people believe them? Were Eastern Europeans in 1945 still looking at the goals of 1848 as desirable?
