I've heard the decline of the French Revolution's Enrages and Hebertists attributed to the climate of poisonous infighting but doesn't it also correlate to the ascendancy of merchant/artisan bourgeoisie? Did the up-and-comers redirect the revolution or simply rise up in the vacuum left by others?
