In the 1520 Address to the Nobility Luther wrote that the Pope must not assume royal authority over Naples and Sicily. Was it unusual for the educated elite to declare political opinions such as this in sixteenth-century Germany/ Europe? Or was this seen outside the realm of the universities etc?
