While most other 1790's English novels have fairly modern capitalization, M.G. Lewis's The Monk (1796) has Words in Uppercase for pure Emphasis like earlier Eighteenth Century Novels (ok, enough demonstration). Why would he do this? Wouldn't his readers have found this highly antiquated?
