"Awakening" and "slumber" are common motifs in the Old and New Testaments (from Samuel hearing the voice of God as he sleeps to Jesus comparing the coming of the Lord to a "thief in the night" and urging his followers to "stay awake"). Are these metaphors specific to Judeo-Christian spirituality?
