Romaine Brooks is one of my favourite artists, though she's now more well known for her genderbending & cross dressing subjects, and her own LGBT lifestyle. Was this aspect of Brooks' legacy noted by contemporary critics or is the focus on social/sexual commentary in her work more modern?
