I seem to recall a reputable article claiming it's a myth that most Spanish conquistadors were Southern Spanish. However, if it's truly a myth, then why has Latin American Spanish historically been much more akin to Andalusian Spanish (e.g. seseo, yeísmo) than to the Castile-based prestige standard?
