Calypso has long had music with strong, overt political messages like Attila's "The Commissioner's Report" or "Money Is King" by Growling Tiger. Harry Belafonte might have made it tropical with Jamaican-inspired tunes, but why has it never taken off the same way reggae has as political songs?
