The Armorial Wijnbergen, compiled in mid-to-late 13th century France, refers to the Mamluk Sultan as the "Sultan of Babylonia" Why were they referred to as such when the Mamluk powerbase was centered around Cairo and the borders of the realm never sincerely grew close to Babylonia?
