In "Aztec Warfare" Ross Hassig notes that one advantage to a State acquiescing to Aztec dominion would be "participation in the Aztec trading network". Presumbly, however, trade still occured between Aztec-controlled and foreign cities, so what does this mean, exactly? Were there any other benefits?
