Many former colonial powers stubbornly clung to small colonial possessions for a long time, Spanish Sahara and Portuguese Goa and Macau come to mind. Were such holdout colonies even worth keeping economically and/or strategically, or were they just stubbornly held on to out of pride/prestige?
