In Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth is killed by Macduff, who is ‘not of woman born’ because he was born by Caesarian section. It’s a silly twist inserted for dramatic purposes, but how common were C-sections in Shakespearean England? Did any women survive C-sections at that time?
