The ancient Romans, Greeks and Hebrews had taboos against human sacrifice and saw it as barbaric, but there is evidence they once practiced it and in some cases continued to do so in different forms (i.e. gladiatorial combat). What caused these peoples to view human sacrifice as foreign and evil?
