On a trip to Ellis Island, the cafeteria served roast beef, mashed potatoes and chow-chow (pickled relish), calling it a "traditional immigrant meal." Is this in any way accurate? What were immigrants at Ellis Island actually served? How plentiful and healthy were the food choices available?
