Why didn’t general Grant bombard Vicksburg and avoid prolonging the siege? It’s not like it’s a walled city like Constantinople, Paris, or Vienna that could sustain repeated artillery bombardment, Paris was bombarded only a few years later by Moltke, Vicksburg wouldn’t hold a full artillery attack?
