In Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" (written in 1881 and takes place in 1760 give or take) a cut is patched with "plaster". Wikipedia lists medical plaster as 20th century invention. What would the author mean by "plaster"? What would be used in that case in those circumstances?
