The Allied demand for unconditional surrender to end WW2 wasn’t made until FDR brought it up at the Casablanca conference in 1943, and reportedly surprised Churchill and Stalin. Were there any serious attempts at a negotiated armistice prior to the unconditional surrender declaration?
