Why did the British reward Lord Minto (Gilbert Elliot Murray Kynynmound, 1st Earl of Minto) with the all-important post of Governor-General of India after he messed up as Civil Commissioner for Dunkirk and then Toulon followed by quite glaring mistakes in governance as the Viceroy of Corsica ?
