I just discovered my great-grandfather was First officer on SS Trident, in convoy SC7 in October 1940, where 20 of 35 ships, 79,000 tonnes, were sunk by U-boats. If Germany had had such success against all convoys, how quickly might Britain have collapsed in the Second World War?
