In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood the player purchases and renovates major landmarks (Augustus' Mausoleum, Collosseum, Arch of Titus, churches etc). Did Renaissance noblemen ever fund restoration projects like this? Did 16th Century Romans try to preserve the city's ancient architecture?
