Daniel Defoe's book "Robinson Crusoe" is wildly held as the first fictional novel. A professor of mind said though that Defoe tried to pass it off as a true account. Is this true? Did be receive any kind of backlash when the truth came out? How did the truth even spread to the readers of the book?
