In modern Western culture, first cousin marriage is taboo. In medieval Europe, first cousin marriage was taboo. But in Victorian England, it seems accepted: Victoria, Darwin, etc. My impression is it was also acceptable in the US at the time. Why did it become normal and then taboo again?
