It seems contradictory that much of the Russian aristocracy appeared to be quite progressive in comparison to the rest of the country, from supporters of the Narodniks and Decembrists to outright Anarchist revolutionaries such as Peter Kropotkin and Michail Bakunin. What was the reason behind this?
