Christopher Mayhew was a pioneer in anti-Zionism in Britain. Upon visiting Israel in 1963, Mayhew remarked that Foreign Minister Golda Meir's attitude toward Palestinians had uncanny similarities to that of British settlers in Africa. She related to them solely as "drivers, gardeners and houseboys."
