I don't mean this in a disrespectful way at all, but why do we (U.S.) have a Marine Corps? What do they do that makes them unique? And why aren't they just a part of the Army or something?

My dad found these old coins in 1987. At the time he was managing a water main construction project in the city of Lahore, Pakistan around the Lahore Fort where a bunch of these old coins were found hidden inside a clay pot.
