In a 36 year span (1865 - 1901), three US Presidents were assassinated. No Presidents were assassinated before 1865 and only one has been (successfully) assassinated after 1901. What factors led to this period being so deadly? Was it similar in other countries during this period?

"Just Say No" to drugs is widely regarded as a failed strategy and may have actually worsened the drug problem it was trying to dampen. Why did it fail and should the administration have known it would fail? Was there pushback from social scientists and medical professionals?
