In Slaughterhouse V, it is mentioned that a train carrying allied POWs was marked in some way on the carriage tops to indicate that it should not be fired upon by enemy aircraft. Was this common? And if so, did it actually stop aircraft from doing so? Also, was it ever used as a guise?
