Could a 1/4 mile long tapered cone be made to reach earth orbit in an 8 mile long rail gun consisting of a tube under vacuum and not succumb to temperature and pressure caused by atmospheric drag? Or, what would it take to make a space gun's payload leave earth orbit intact?
