In an electrolytic cell, why do electrons go from anode->wire->cathode and NOT from anode->electrolyte->cathode in the 1st “phase” of their travel? Furthermore, why will those same electrons go from the cathode->electrolyte->anode only in the 2nd “phase” of their travel?
