Is it possible for a planet to be tidally locked around a star, so that one side is always facing its sun, and the other always facing darkness?

It's my understanding that when we try to touch something, say a table, electrostatic repulsion keeps our hand-atoms from ever actually touching the table-atoms. What, if anything, would happen if the nuclei in our hand-atoms actually touched the nuclei in the table-atoms?

If vaccines work by introducing a small amount of a foreign substance to your body to trigger an immune response to develop resistance, why don’t allergies work the same when they also trigger an immune response when exposed to something foreign to the body?
