On February 21, 2023, 17-year-old Brendan Depa attacked teacher's aide Joan Naydich at Matanzas High School after she confiscated his Nintendo Switch. Depa, 6'6" and 270 pounds, knocked her unconscious and repeatedly kicked her. He faces a first-degree felony and up to 30 years in prison.
