Portrait of a Pontianak by me. Pontianak are the equivalent of vampires in the South East Asian folkloric tales. They often arise from the souls of vengeful murdered women. The name Pontianak means ‘Ponti-Tree, Anak-Child’ in reference to their tendency to stalk victims from trees.
