Silly friend filled up a dirty gas tank. How can I filter it to be useable?

Got a exmark lazer z, runs fine, but when key turned off it lowers rpms, but doesnt shut off till about 5 seconds. Already changed key switch, same thing. Both coios are still getting spark (probably weaker spark) when key is off, until it shuts off. Thoughts?
