TIL of the old Dutch Navy torture known as Keelhauling. The victim was tied to a rope that looped beneath the ship. They were then thrown overboard as the rope got pulled from the other side, dragging them across the hull of the ship. The barnacles attached to the hull tore their skin to shreds.
