The Kindu Massacre, or Kindu Atrocity, took place in 1961 in Kindu Port-Émpain, in the Congo-Léopoldville. Thirteen Italian airmen who were members of the United Nations Operation in the Congo who were sent to deal with the Congo Crisis were killed and eaten by the locals.

Makaiko Kheti is a 1920 lost literary work by Krishna Lal Adhikari, on growing maize (corn). The book allegedly contained double entendres to attack the Rana dynasty ruling Nepal; Adhikari was sent to prison, where he died. 'Following the controversy, all authors were frightened of the word "maize"'

Maine State Flag Referendum: On November 5, 2024 a legislatively-referred state statute, the MSFR, will go before voters in the US state of Maine. If enacted, it will change the official state flag from the current version, first enacted in 1909, to a variation of the 1901 flag.
