UK had serious rivalry with Russia over Central Asia during the Great Game pre-WW1 deploying pretty big numbers in India to defend the place. Did this resurface at the outset of WW2 and Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact? How was this viewed from the other side in Moscow? Did Stalin have plans for India?

There are many records in history of corrupt, sadistic, lazy, nepotistic kings being deposed by a rebellion. How reliable are such accounts? Could it just be name smearing by the successor to legitimize their takeover?
