At the time of the National Firearms Act of 1934 was there a strong pro Second Amendment movement opposed to “tyrannical legislation” like we see today? Or were people more accepting of it back then? Due to the rampant crime waves in the 1920s?

Hitler’s now infamous toothbrush mustache now called “the Hitlerstache” has been Taboo for 80 years. But before he had it, it was rather popular. Has there been another example of a popular facial hair style or some other distinctive feature being tainted by a dictator before or after Adolf Hitler?
