In the Soviet war movie "Liberation: Fire Bulge" (1970) about the Kursk Battle, in the climactic scene the tanks engage each other at very close distance with bailing crews then engaging each other in hand-to-hand combat. Is such scenario even remotely plausible (the distance and melee)?

In 'World at War' documentary episode about Italian campaign, general Mark Clark mentions that German army had a certain degree of advantage by being 'homogenous'. Is there a documented evidence/research of national diversity of Allied troops being a handicap (in the Italian campaign in particular)?
