Watching Ken Burns' new series on Vietnam, I'm struck by how much detail soldiers appear to be able to give in their letters home. Was this a change in policy compared to earlier conflicts, or have I just not come across similar letters from WW2?

Each of the Republics of the Soviet Union had its own flag - all variations on the hammer-and-sickle-on-red theme. How widely were they used and flown? Was the flag of, say, the Ukraine SSR only really found on the buildings of the state government, or did ordinary people fly and identify with it?

Just watching a BBC documentary on the Indus Valley, and it talks about the Greek influence on the area following Alexander the Great. But what influences went the other way? How did Greek/Macedonian society change as a result of the interaction of cultures?
