Several key Qing institutions and practices, such as the annual hunt and the Banner system, were evolutions of a tradition of smaller-scale hunting established by the Jurchens. Did the earlier Jin Dynasty have similar practices, or does the emergence of a hunting-based Jurchen society postdate them?
