Heard it in a Timothy Snyder's podcast, that there was a time Czechs could have ruled the Medieval Europe, if not for a few cases of bad luck. Does it hold?

I am a woman of a violent profession (a thief, a mercenary) in late medieval period (1500-). Could I be chilling in a city tavern without a hat? Or would it be unthinkable, in that case, what kind of hat would it be proper for a traveling woman to wear?
