In the 15th and 16th centuries, many Kings and Queens would have a marriage of convenience, such as Henry VIII marrying Catherine of Aragon. How would the couple communicate? Would they constantly have interpreters around, or would they simply not speak to each other?

On a trip to Ellis Island, the cafeteria served roast beef, mashed potatoes and chow-chow (pickled relish), calling it a "traditional immigrant meal." Is this in any way accurate? What were immigrants at Ellis Island actually served? How plentiful and healthy were the food choices available?
