In the late 1960s, the Shah of Iran laid claim to the entire nation of Bahrain, citing "historical precedent." What "historical precedent" was he referring to? Was Bahrain ever firmly under Persian/Iranian control? Or was this simply an unsubstantiated claim to gain more territory?

Modern day Turkey, particularly Istanbul, is known for the exceptionally large stray cat population, which is often kept fed and comfortable by the local communities. What was the feeling towards stray animals in the Ottoman Empire? Were they fed and taken care of or simply left to rot and scavenge?
