From reading “Helter Skelter” it appears the LAPD and LA Sheriff Officer bungled the investigation following the Tate (and related) murders. Were there consequences to the officers or leadership of LAPD/LASO as a result?

Larson claims in Devil in the White City that Burnham bought Madeira wine and had it shipped twice around the world for aging. Was this a way to show off wealth in the late 19th century? Why ship it around the world instead of simply aging it in place?

The film "Tim's Vermeer" suggests that Vermeer used advanced optics (advanced relative to the camera obscura) to aid him in his painting. The film suggests there is little to no historical proof of this. Is this suggestion true and would this have been something Vermeer would have hidden?
