How did medieval or ancient merchants maintain their wealth? I am curious to know cause it's not like they had stocks or bonds right? This is how wealth is maintained in the modern world. But if you're rich you like to spend, how does that get replaced?

During the Cold War, why weren't western socialists parties couped like elsewhere? There were several explicit democratic socialist or marxist parties in the West, like the SDP, Labour (UK), Labor (Australia), Parti Socialiste (France)?

In their book, Monopoly Capital, Baran and Sweezy argue that anti-trust cases tend to target corporations that supply key goods in the production of other goods, therefore anti-trust laws in practice are used to help other capitalists instead of consumers. Is there historical merit to this claim?
