What was life like for Black Americans in the South a few years after the 1968 Civil Rights Bill? Was there any sudden change? How slow was desegregation for say a candy shop or gas station?

Broad question but were Black Americans who advocated for the Return to Africa movement aware of the mistreatment and colonial policies towards Native Liberians put in place by American-Liberians? Did they not see the irony?

In the movies “Don’t Be A Menace”, “Menace II Society” and “Do The Right Thing”. There is a lot of tension between Black residents and their Asian-American grocer. Were Black-Asian relations really that poor in the 1980s and 90s?
